History: To Love a Child, Inc. is a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 organization registered in the state of New York. Established in 2009, the organization works in Haiti, Zimbabwe and Uganda. The organization is managed entirely by volunteers consisting of a dedicated full-time executive director and board of directors. The leadership of the organization has been highly involved with mission work since 2003 and brings extensive experience and knowledge to each project. To Love a Child is blessed to collaborate with St. John’s Episcopal Church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, St. George’s Episcopal Church, The Think Peace Workshop for Girls, GE, and many others to combine talent and resources to help the people of Haiti.
Mission Statement: To provide humanitarian assistance and spiritual support to impoverished children and their families throughout the world, helping to create a better future and quality of life for all. To Love a Child makes every effort to align itself with the United Nations Millennium Development Goals for eradicating poverty and hunger, achieving universal education, promoting gender equality, reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, combating HIV/AIDS and malaria, ensuring environmental sustainability and developing a global partnership for development. Further, we believe in communication with community leaders to promote the commonalty of goals and objectives. We believe in building positive relationships to promote commitment, responsibility, accomplishment, and a sense of hope in the future. We believe in sharing God’s love and the fruit of the spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and gentleness.
Current Projects: Since its inception, To Love a Child has been providing funding, supplies and services to some of the most vulnerable people in the country. We primarily work in two locations; the Orphanage of Good Will located just outside of Port au Prince and at Rantlamouaie in the Central Plateau. Current projects include a monthly feeding program, supplemental nutrition, medical care and supplies, salaries for teachers and tutors, providing blackboards, desks & benches, funding of solar projects and transportation, and providing supplies for education, sports, and personal hygiene. TLC responded within 10 days after the devastating earthquake in January 2010 with hands-on support and basic necessities. We also provide an opportunity for individuals to serve on short term missions where they can spend time serving and caring for others.
Long Term Goals: There is so much need in Haiti that it is difficult to list all the initiatives we would like to invest in, but, here is a short list of projects that we believe are critical for improving lives at our project sites: drilling wells to provide clean drinking water and eliminating the threat of water borne diseases, investing in entrepreneurial programs that create income and help families to be self-supporting, launching training and educational programs to a few who in turn will teach many, providing solar energy and computers to enhance education and give greater opportunities for income generating projects, constructing buildings for education and living, and developing agriculture projects to produce greater harvests and slowly chip away at the abundant food shortages.
